Open opportunities at Senior Access

Today was my last day at Senior Access, however, I hope to return in the future to visit staff members and residents. I greatly enjoyed my time there and learned a great deal from the employees and especially Amy. I am glad I chose Senior Access as a service learning site because I do not think I could have a better place. In my future as an occupational therapist, I hope to put into practice what I have learned at this site. If I can develop the same level of patience and tolerance and deliver as excellent of care as the employees, I will feel accomplished in my career goals.

As I progress through my service learning at Senior Access, I find myself becoming more comfortable around the residents. I have come to know almost all of them and appreciate their enthusiasm when working on activities. I enjoy talking with the residents being that they have much to share and always appreciate somebody to talk to. I am happy to listen and get to know them as individuals with fascinating life stories. Today I talked with one resident who traveled the world and shared stories of her extravagant travels to Europe. I am also interested in going abroad and appreciated her insight as to whether or not it was a good idea. I had no idea I would meet someone with so much traveling experience and am grateful for my time at senior access.

Senior Access

While I always enjoy my time at Senior Access, today was an especially good day. I am becoming more comfortable with the residents and have come to know quite a few of them. I enjoy listening to them talk about their experiences. When the residents tai about something they are interested in or a fond memory, it is amazing to see them light up and transform into more than just a resident of Senior Access. I see them as people with various life experiences who are still lively and fascinating to talk to. Today, we played an anagram game, watched a concert with Barry, and finished with an "I Spy" puzzle. A few residents excel at these mind games and it is very surprising and interesting to watch them discuss possible answers and actively participate in the games.

At Senior Access, I enjoyed watching a concert performed by Barry. I believe these weekly concerts bring much joy to the elderly's day. The musician plays classic in which they are familiar with and I am happy to see many of them smiling and having fun throughout the concert. Afterwards, I read articles on nobel peace prize winners. I was surprised to find some of them were alive during the times of these famous individuals and could recall the events. I am eager to continue my service at Senior Access.

Today at Senior Access, I connected with the elderly through various activities such as music and trivia. I enjoy learning more about the people I am servicing because it makes the experience all the more fulfilling. Today during the concert, children from the nursery came in to participate and I saw an amazing change in the elderly. They really enjoyed watching the children sing and dance and responded positively to their presence.

My service this past Thursday at Senior Access included helping set up for various activities, in addition to a music concert by Barrey. I enjoyed the first activity where we created different words from a given phrase. This enabled the adults to actively engage each other for help when coming up with new words. I believe they enjoyed this activity. After the game, Barrey came to perform wonderful songs that relaxed the adults and myself as well. Watching a concert every Thursday provides much joy to the elderly because they can sing along. Later on, we read stories from Peanuts comic strips and asked trivia questions. I could tell they enjoyed this because their faces would light up when they knew the answer. I hope my experiences at Senior Access will continue to be a great joy and I look forward to coming back.

Today, at Senior Access, I helped the employees with setting up activities and cleaning up after lunch time. Then we listened to a musician and set up for a strudel tasting. I enjoyed my time there and am excited to return for next week.

My first day at Senior Access consisted of becoming familiar the rules and daily routines and expectations of servicing there. I enjoyed the positive atmosphere and and cannot wait to return so I can meet more people and contribute to their needs.
